ID: I6.a Title: The Temple of Segesta, Segesta, Italy.
Period of construction: End of the 5th century B.C.
Structural type: Block structure
Chronology of intervention:
-1781: Intervention of repair and reconstruction;
-1806: Structural reinforcement; done by C. Chenche;
-1828: Structural reinforcement; done by D. Cavallari Spatafora;
-1939-1940: No record available;
-1949-1950: Localized correction done by J. Marconi, and Guiotto;
-1961: Removal of the metallic elements previously inserted; done by G.B. Filippo. Basile;
-1965: Done by V. Tusa;
-1975: Done by G. Jacono;
-1994-1996: Done by S. Manzo and P. Amico;
-Recent intervention: Archaeological supervision.
Type of Intervention:
Replacing lacking parts and solving degradation problems;

Description of the Interventions:
-1781:
-Reconstruction in travertine of the second column (from the South) of the Eastern fronton that was damaged by a lightning;
-Reconstruction of the top part of column of the Western fronton;
-Repair realized by stones different from the original travertine.
-1806:
-Application of stirrups and hoopings of iron on some architraves and columns.
-1828:
-Application of hoopings in bronze on the corner columns of the Eastern fronton.
-1939-1940:
-Filling great cavities with masonry covered by plaster.

Photos:
a consolidation of the columns by external elements.
b c rectangular elbows or "ancones" protruding from the stones.
The ancones should prevent from slipping away the ropes by which the stones are raised. This gives evidence of the unfinished state of the temple.

ID: I6.b Title: The Temple of Segesta, Segesta, Italy.
Description of the Interventions:
-1949-1950:
Localized reinforced concrete strengthening.
-1961:
-Plan of intervention prepared up by G. B. Filippo Basile;
-Removal of the metallic elements inserted in the past;
-Use of Pozzolan mortars in order to overwhelm voids.
-1965:
Use of protective "layers of concrete" on many abaci.

Type of Intervention:
Extended plan of intervention for structural purposed.

Description of the Interventions:
-1975:
-The intervention plan consist of:
-Filling large cavities in columns of the Eastern side with cracked stones cemented by epoxidic mortar;
-Perforation of columns, capitals and architraves;
-Insertion of stainless steel bars and their implantation by means of epoxidic resin injections.
The plan was executed in the east side of the temple in 1979-80 and in the north side in 1981-85. The intervention was suspended.
-1981-1985:
-Cover of a heavily damaged surfaces by epoxidic mortar of white color.
-1991:
-Appearance of negative consequences due to the insertion of the stainless steel.

ID: I6.c Title: The temple of Segesta, Segesta, Italy.
Description of Intervention:
-1994-1996:
The plan consist of :
-A general study of the degradation phenomena;
-The consolidation of dangerous parts;
-The revision of the way of filling the cavities and of realizing the superficial cladding.

-Recent intervention:
-Study of the materials and the processes of degradation;
-Consolidation and protection of some damaged abaci;
-Filling of cavity or restoration of previous fillings;
-Anticorrosive treatment of the metals;
-Camouflage of interventions too invasive;
-Reconstruction with stainless steel bars in the capitals in rheoplastic mortar of concrete (temporary solution);
-For some extremely deteriorated parts lead thin sheets are used as coverage.
